Listed Building Repairs
Repairing and renovation of historic and listed buildings requires cautious management to make sure that the fabric of the building is undamaged and that the end result meets the visual and structural requirements. EBL Group has the specialised skills needed to carry out sensitive and sympathetic repairs to listed and historic buildings. EBL Group has, over the past 25 years, brought together a team of highly skilled and specialist craftsmen dedicated to the repair and restoration of listed buildings. At EBL Builders we take pride in restoring listed buildings to their former splendour.
We are experienced at working with English Heritage and are very proficient at working to their rigorous controls and regulations for listed buildings while balancing the equally stringent and often at odds, fire, sound and safety regulations resolutely required by the local building control. EBL Group’s work, in partnership with English Heritage, has included the renovation of the roof of one of the most notable buildings in the heart of Liverpool city centre. Our specialist lead and slate personnel completely removed and then sensitively replaced the slates and ornate lead work in exact replication of the original roof.
Over the 25 years that EBL Group has been trading in the North West, we have repaired, refurbished and restored numerous listed buildings, including restoring the roofing of dozens of churches on behalf of the Diocese. In 2007 EBL Group were presented with The Vale Royal Building Control “Built in Quality” award. This listed building award was achieved for work at Sutton Chancellor in Sutton Weaver. The £2.5 million restoration required the meticulous removal, numbering and documentation of the centuries year old oak roof trusses, making possible the demolition and reproduction of the unsound outer walls, before reinstating the roof by means of the same traditional fixing technique as the original craftsmen.
Other repair, restoration and refurbishment of listed buildings include that of Christleton Old Hall in Chester, built in 1603, by a member of the Egerton family, who had their main family seat at Tatton Park. That undertaking also required the destruction and replication of the attached Victorian Orangery. EBL Group have also accomplished a complete renovation on one of Halton Village’s, oldest Grade 1 listed 17th century timber-framed cottages.
At EBL we have staff who have had specialist training in contending with listed building and training on restoration and reclamation. We have a workforce skilled at replacing and restoring oak beams, stone roof slates, ornate lead work and knowledge of traditional building techniques. We are experienced at matching centuries old architecture and using traditional methods as the original craftsmen would. EBL Group has the skills needed to bring together 21st century technology without destroying the authentic character of a building.
