No time like the present at Polinda Gardens!
Helped by pupils of St. Austin’s RC Primary School, Mayor of St. Helens, Cllr Teresa Sims, recently buried the present for future generations to discover to commemorate the official opening of Polinda Gardens - a new and exclusive residential development off St. Matthews Grove in Grange Park.
After unveiling a special plaque at the entrance of the small development of detached, semi-detached and mews houses, Cllr Sims was invited to start digging a hole for a time capsule to be buried. The capsule not only contains a recent copy of this newspaper for future generations to read, but is filled with memorabilia of the immediate area and of St. Helens as a whole, much of which was produced by Year Two and Year Six pupils of St. Austin’s RC Primary School, a short walk away from Polinda Gardens.
Other contents of the specially-constructed lead-lined box includes information about St. Helens MBC, a special message from the Mayor, information about the EBL Group - developers of the houses - a CD of this week’s chart topper and a variety of other souvenirs to remind future generations of life in 2007. It is intended that the time capsule should be opened in 2057, half a century from now.
