A timber-framed extension to the side of a large Edwardian house, built over the walls of an existing basement, which has been demolished. The accommodation includes a new entrance porch providing access both to the existing house and the extension, a shower room and WC, a garden store at basement level and a spacious living area linked directly to the existing kitchen.

The walls of the extension are filled with recycled newspaper and clad with Siberian larch. The flat roof has been covered with an extensive sedum roof and there is paved access.

A raised deck to the rear of the extension provides direct access to the extension with stepped access to an extensive, sustainable garden.

Space below the deck is used for water storage, saved from the existing house roof, together with waste and recycle bins.
